No, you do not require a travel ban exemption to travel to Australia
The Department cannot extend Visitor visas – however, they can be re-applied if you do not have any “no further stay” condition in your visa.
Your sponsor can be either:
- a family member in Australia
- an Australian government official

Genuine Temporary Entrant Criteria
You must satisfy the genuine temporary entrant criteria to be granted this visa. This means that you must intend to only stay temporarily in Australia and obey all conditions attached to your visa.
You can prove that you are a genuine visitor by providing the below evidence:
⦁ a statement from you outlining your reason for visit
⦁ proof that you are employed in your home country.
⦁ proof that you study at a school, college, or university in your home country
⦁ proof that you have immediate family members in your home country
⦁ proof that you can return home
⦁ proof that you own a house or other major assets in your home country

My wife and small son were in a refugee camp with no passport or ID Card. The complications for them to travel out of the camp to go to medical exams, obtain a Thai ‘Exit Permit’ were very difficult and involved communication with the International Organisation for Migration & the Thai Ministry of the Interior as well as the visa processing desk at the embassy.
